Bittorrent is downloading for me at my max speed of 50 k/s.

liquidtenmilion 06-24-2004 10:54 AM

All of the ftp servers are going slow, so i recommend using torrents, as now you will get the fastest transfers possible becauase everyone downloading slackware 10.

Yeay bit-torrents going cool for me 2. Started at 1kbs ( :D ) for about 5 mins then sped up to around 40kb, my max being around 50.

r_jensen11 06-24-2004 11:52 AM

Damn it! And I just got 9.1 ironed out! NOOO!!!!

SBing 06-24-2004 11:54 AM

Yeh, my torrent speed was pathetic this morning, but I just left it running while I was at work and it's finished downloading disk2...left that seeding and started disk1 :)

Should be done before the weekend anyway ;)

Yea, Heres another who is waiting on the subscription. I'll get a nice 4 or 5 disk boxed set with a nice little book.... ;) And I'll be putting some money in Pats wallet so he feels motivated to keep up with the project.... It's only 40 bucks for a release out of the store. It's less than that for me since I pay a very small anaul fee.... If you don't have a credit card, get a friend to order it for you... Just give them the money for it.... Theres nothing wrong with downloading it, but it would be nice if as many people as possible could order it... :) Looks like I still have to use my SATA bootdisks to get the install started, but oh well....

I want to have the Slackware(10) original 4 cd-set, its an historical release.
Everyone is free to do whatever they like, but, everybody that once thought of buying and didn't, now's the time.
I am not in any way related to slackware, other than a user, and from viewing all these posts,
i thought, none of this guys are going to buy, so it kind of made me angry and sad, and that's why
i wrote this anyway.

ringwraith 06-24-2004 12:52 PM

don't worry this is one downloader that already ordered the boxed set. and don't forget the kewl shirts.

pqbd 06-24-2004 12:53 PM

jamaso, you're entitled to your opinion, but I do not see the good people at Slackware pointing guns at us to buy it. They did make the it available for free download, after all. *shrugs* As it is, I do have a subscription (started from 9.0).

But I've changed my mind; I couldn't wait. :D I started downloading via Bittorrent, and amazing enough, I got the iso for disc 1 in about 3 hours. The md5sum checks out. And yes, I'm keeping the client open for upload at the moment. Getting disc 2 now...

I'm currently at 10-RC2. I'll upgrade the rest of the way when I get home. But I'm still looking forward to getting the Slackware 10 CDs on my subscription.

Wow, that stinks, only 50kb/s? I had 2 going at around 10-15kb/s (disks 1 and 2) and 2 going around 150kb/s (disks 3 and 4)

It remains questionable if I burn the last two disks or not, if only there were a DVD iso for it!

liquidtenmilion 06-24-2004 03:57 PM

afiak, You don't need to burn the 3rd and 4th cds as they are just source cds. In fact, no matter how many packages you select during install you wont need them.

I know you don't need to burn ANY CD's if you have all of the files on your hard drive. I also know that you can just use the first CD to have a perfectly fine system. I think having a DVD iso would be a good idea though, then we wouldn't have to worry about which CD is the install, which is the Live CD, and having to worry about popping disks in and out during installation (I know, you should only have to install once....)
