So for those using wine-pba, is it worth it? That is, if I have an older CPU, would it help? (I seem to be bottlenecked by it, not my GPU, which is a 1050ti.)
There's some difference between wine-3.10 + wine-3.10 staging + DXVK vs wine-3.10 + wine-staging-3.10 + pba + DXVK.
I'm running a MMORPG with it and it works flawless, i am really satisfied with it.
I can benchmark if you wish. Which game do you have in mind?
Wonder if anyone will get mingw64 to work with Slackware64-current anytime soon. Would appreciate it a lot since DXVK could be built from git then..

Out of curiosity, what did you do to get dxvk working? I'm not interested in Lutris, and most of the instructions I'm seeing are "just use Lutris." Or am I stuck with Lutris because of the aforementioned mingw64 issue?

I just compiled wine-staging and downloaded the release from https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
i'm using dxvk 0.54 because that works with NVIDIA 390.xx drivers.

:-)
Doh. I was overthinking it, since they gave detailed descriptions of what build environment you needed. Yeah, I'm still on the 390 series. I'm not adverse to switching drivers to something else, but I'd like to wait a bit longer on the 396 tree. (Call me paranoid.)
So then what is the consensus here among those trying dxvk? Is it a substantial gain in performance or just a minor bump? FWIW I'm using latest wine-staging and nvidia 390.77 and all works fine, no hitches.

My understanding is that it's needed to get the more recent games (like Nier Automata and and Dark Souls 1 and 3) to run at all. And that they run perfectly with DXVK and video drivers that can handle it.
The only game I'm aware of where DXVK just gives a performance boost is Trails of Cold Steel.
DXVK, at the moment, handles anything that needs DX11. I'm told it's the coolest thing since sliced bread, but none of the games I'm playing at the moment really call for it. I was halfway thinking of seeing how it worked with Diablo III, since its dx9 port is starting to get buggy, or feeling less maintained.
Thanks for the info. I have been waxing and waning over "Kingdom Come: Deliverance" and I see that it will run with reduced graphics settings (excepting water rendering which needs to be Ultra) on Linux through "wine steam". There are videos and like the guy said it is playable but his lowest fps is very low but he (and any others I've seen) isn't using DXVK yet gets a satisfactory 25-30 FPS on average. If the lows of 3-6 FPS would even get up to 10-12 I'd probably pull the trigger... of my crossbow of course "Coolest thing since sliced bread" eh? Geez now I'm probably going to have to spend a weekend getting DXVK up and running.
