re.: slackware current GUI won't start on a TV screen

HI everyone,

my LCD Samsung screen has decided to retire.

I have an LED TV that I thought of using as a screen until I get a new PC screen (or repair the Samsung).

Something really interesting happens: when I load Slackware (current) everything seems to be as normal; i am on dual boot so LILO starts up, I choose my OS and there it goes! the txt based console booting goes all the way to localhost loging and password. Then I 'startx' and... the screen goes blank and never recover. I thought it could be related to KDE so I tried 'xwmconfig' to change the GUI (i tried them all): same thing.

My graphic card is nVidia Geforce GTX550ti, with 2 DVI ports and one mini HDMI. The TV is a 10yr old Trevi 1360x768; I think it could be 39" or 41", not sure.
So my connection is mini HDMI to standard HDMI.

Oddly enough, I tried to boot Windows and it kinda do a similar thing; instead of returning a blank screen it freezes just before the login screen (i hadnt booted windows for several months and I dont plan on doing it again, so I apologize for spitting that out on a linux forum)

Is there a way that Slackware can start a GUI on a TV? Could anyone throw a few tips or suggestions on how/why this isn't working?

Regards,

Login as root, then backup the xorg.conf file and re-run nvidia-xconfig. Exit root, login as normal user, startx.

Already done it, before asking for help. It didnt make any difference.

nevertheless, there is some interesting development! my monitor was repaired the same day and as i went back home to connect it (22" screen that I have been using for over 3yrs) there was no video signal received.
Puzzling!
Tried the TV again to test it: NO signal (mini HDMI to HDMI)
mmhhh!
Tried PC screen again: NO signal (DVI to DVI)
What i thought to be just a resolution issue (fixable in the OS settings) has resulted in having NO display at all now.
Has my Nvidia card died?

p.s.: the connections were done together (TV and screen) and individually

Possibly. I would check that the card has power first, maybe the power cord came loose, then try a different card. Worst case is a motherboard problem.

[SOLVED]
it turned out that the video card had moved (millimetrically) and therefore wouldn't boot.
I open the desktop and after firmly presssing the card in it slot (and a good clean) everything started up well.
Glad to Have a 39" new LED screen as monitor.
Regards,
