Does your use of LibreOffice necessarily entail any of its java components (typically database components)? As some here have often been keen to point out, building LibreOffice without Java support is possible. As mentioned in its README file, the LibreOffice.SlackBuild (the build from source version) enables this by setting JAVA=no when you run the script i.e.
Code:
JAVA=no sh ./LibreOffice.SlackBuild
Yes, what Chris said. I've installed several versions of LibreOffice without java. It works fine.
Thanks Richard; it does not work for me. Clicking on your first link, I get an oracle page with apparent path (in gray): 'Oracle Technology Network / Java / Java SE / Downloads'. The 'Download' tab seems to be preselected. The box below is completely empty. No list, no buttons. Blank.
I do have 'Adblock Plus' in firefox, but I have checked 'Disable on linuxquestions.org', and in fact, 'Disable everywhere.' I've never had this problem in the past.
I really feel stupid. NO idea what I'm missing here.
I have seen the suggestions about building lo with no java. I may have to just do that. But would like the whole deal, if possible. Also, that's no help for some other SBo's.

You might have extensions causing the site to not load properly. You could try it in Seamonkey. I just tested it there and the site shows up fine with the radio buttons.
Possibly off-topic but I make use of the binary release of Apache OpenOffice on my Slackware desktop for compatablity with one of my employers.
Download the rpm tar file, untar, rpm2tgz and install. If no Java then simply untick the jdk option under advanced/java in Tools | Options (and no 'base' functionality, i.e. the database component won't work).
Under kde (both 14.2 and current) I find that I have to copy the .dekstop files to .local/share/applications/ and alter the exec path. XFCE just works as long as you install the 'desktop integration' package for freedesktop. OpenOffice installs to /opt so will co-exist with LO in /usr/local or wherever.
One person suggested using 'seamonkey' - and that cut thru whatever problems there were with my Firefox setup and made the download of jdk 8u192 happen with no problems !
So now I guess I somehow have FF set up wrong and will have to check that out. But the main problem is solved and can compile both LO and Scilab with java.

Thanks for the help.

It is likely one or more of your extensions. I would try temporarily disabling any adblocker (ADB, uBlock, etc), script blocker (NoScript, uMatrix, etc), and/or privacy addons (Ghostery, TrackMeNot, etc) you may have and see if one of those fixes it. If none of them do, you could post a list of your addons and we may be able to suggest what one is causing it. Hopefully with whatever addon is causing it, we can find a way to whitelist the specific part of the Oracle page that you need rather than disabling the whole addon.
