On printers I would recommend HP ; in my case I have a Deskjet 2132 cheap & cheerful
One thing about Hewlett packard printers is in Slackware hp-setup

Putting it succinctly prevention is better than cure go for HP- I have never failed to set up several different HP model printers both in UK & a HP laser in Ghana
