Alternative to youtube.com to store educational videos?

I have tried SimpleScreenRecorder aka ssr to record a video of an OS installation in a VM, with audio comments. It works very well. ssr is easy to use, simple to set up and can output files in WebM format (among others) that is supported in modern browsers with HTML5 <video>. It even includes an applet in the tray to start|stop|suspend|cancel the recording. And a SlackBuild for it is provided by our friends @ slackbuilds.org (thanks Benjamin and admins).

So far, so good.

But displaying the videos from a remote server uses a lot of bandwidth on the server side, if many people do it at the same time.

Of course I can upload these videos on youtube.com.

However I try hard to avoid being dependent of Google (I cancelled my account there a long time ago).

So my question is: do you know any free alternative to youtube?

Thanks Skaendo. Unfortunately this website is not accessible from Paris either and seems to be down for everyone at the moment, according to http://www.websitedown.info.

Two possible ideas:

1. archive.org may host your videos.
2. Maybe one of the sites that are running mediagoblin.

@orbea: I just registered @ archive. com. I will see how that goes, thanks.

Oh and there are of course other video hosting services like dailymotion.com (thanks gegechris99) and for a factual comparison I just found this page.

In addition any feedback about using some hosting service is welcome, as any advice (things to check or to avoid, for instance).

Yeah, my French friend! I strongly recommend you to go Vimeo!

As plus, you can setup there the videos to be available only on a certain domain (yours) for a small fee, then avoiding shameless embedding...

You know, the stealing of other works is specially high on on-line learning.

Thanks Darth Vader and Scerovec.

Yes I will choose Vimeo.

I have checked their conditions, they are acceptable for me.

I will take a free plan at least to begin with. I don't care that someone steals "Slint installation step by step"

I can produce videos that comply with their specifications using SimpleScreenRecorder, and they have a good FAQ and tutorials.

I mark this thread as [SOLVED].

For me Vimeo is a black hole, never in my life my firefox was able to play any video from it Firefox with absolutely no customizations works, but the real one never.

I understand very well why Google is evil, but youtube would result in more people see your video, IMHO. Unfortunately.

This is why youtube-dl exists, you should use it. It will improve your video watching experience! With programs like mpv you can simply stream any link that youtube-dl supports.

@slalik: I had no issue watching several videos from vimeo.com, including Slackware 12.2 installation. Maybe try this?
Code:
firefox --safe-mode
I didn't need to do that, though.

Doesn't work. The solutions are either vanilla firefox or a downloader. But my usual solution is to search the same video on youtube.

I think there is an issue with your settings. You can see if clearing the cache helps and also check
About:config > security.mixed_content.block_active_content should be set to False (not sure abut that).
