Well I think I found the problem. I am guessing everyone with the problem is using Alien Bob's restricted ffmpeg package. I am using it.

I rebuilt digikam using the source tree build. On my first run I got this error.
Code:

[ 56%] Linking CXX executable digikam
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libvidstab.so.1.1, needed by /usr/lib64/libavfilter.so.7, not found (try
 using -rpath or -rpath-link)

That leads me to ffmpeg, I replaced the Alien Bob ffmpeg with the Slackware package and rebuild digikam with no errors.

Alien Bob's package needs to built against the new vid.stab Slackware package.

I think another side effect is that Dolphin and Thunar don't show thumbnails for any type of video file.
Images, mp3, pdf are OK.

I "upgraded" AlienBob's ffmpeg restricted package to the stock Slackware and now thumbnails are OK.

I rebuilt the Alien Bob's ffmpeg package using his build set. Digikam starts now.

That's interesting, because I use my own ffmpeg build that I haven't rebuilt in a long time, and digikam works. (I probably should rebuild it anyway.)

Maybe it isn't built against vid.stab? If I remember right, there's a possible circular dependency between that and ffmpeg. ffmpeg can be built with vid.stab support and vid.stab can be built with ffmpeg support.

I have an old script that I use for one computer (the others use Pat's build of ffmpeg) and vid.stab was an option in the slackbuild that wasn't enabled.

Good catch :)

Reverting ffmpeg to stock slackware fixed the issue.

Thx.

That was quick! Thanks for the packages Pat

Also, when I synced my mirrors just now I noticed that AlienBob has rebuilt ffmpeg today as well. That might help those who were having a problem with a missing library.

Jeebizz 10-14-2021 05:39 PM

Alright, so - anyone find any easter-eggs yet? Surely there has to be some surprises in this release.

marav 10-14-2021 05:56 PM

When firefox (maximized) is displayed with the title bar (title border) = ok
without = my screen flickers at the bottom right.

Has anyone noticed this?

So, in other words, you have issues with Firefox on full screen mode?

Nope, here it works fine.

BTW, when you talk about graphical artifacts, its better to show your graphics card and OpenGL info.

I observed this behavior only without the title bar.

edit : but not on my VM ...

Other plasma update , other nasty bug ...

I have enabled in the context menu the option "delete"

After upgrade to plasma 5.23 , i CANT , delete nothing in my desktop.

1 - I have configured as "desktop folder"
2 - In dolphin , preferences i enabled "delete" servicemenu
3 - make new file or something in desktop
4 - right click in file to options, delete

does nothing.

And ark bug , remains , thats very nice kde team , nice anniversary edition .. (ironic off)

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440663

Full plage bugs every update ..... and not rare/strange actions from users , i think delete servicemenu is not a rare config , more users have enbaled ,im pretty sure.

sombragris 10-14-2021 09:54 PM

After upgrading to 5.23, the window switching effect "Cover Switch" is no longer available. It's just me or is a change?

EDIT: Nevermind. It was removed. Not funny at all, oh well...
