Exclamation Drag and Drop not working in VirtualBox or Teamviewer

I'm running Linux Mint, and have Windows XP running in a Virtualbox instance. I have the option set to bi-directional but it makes no difference. It might not be a problem with Virtualbox though, since I tried dragging and dropping via Teamviewer to my desktop PC with the same results!

Linux Mint 20.3 64bit
Dell Vostro laptop
Intel i7 @ 1.8GHz

As far as I know Teamviewer drag and drop is Windows only.

I gave up on VB drag and drop and either use shared folders or sftp to transfer files.

VirtualBox supports "drag and drop" only if corresponding support software – Guest Additions – is also installed upon the guest. (And then, if you thereafter enable it in VirtualBox preferences for this particular virtual machine.)

The above-hyperlinked documentation section discusses these matters in exhaustive detail.

"Simply do what they say to do, and it will thereafter work just fine."

---

As others have already said, "TeamViewer" has nothing to do with Linux.

On multiple systems with hosts both linux and Windows versions 6 and 7 I can't get it to work using all the suggestions I found. With other methods it just isn't worth spending more time trying to get it to work.

After some fiddling, I found a workaround: package the files I want to send to the virtual machine into a CD-ROM ISO file, then mount the disk from within the VM. I hope there's a better way, since this process is not only tedious, but it's one-way. I just need to figure out how to share a folder. Oh, and recognize USB devices!

Have you tried installing guest additions? If it works that would provide shared folders as well as USB 2.0 support.
You can try using PuTTY command line tools which have sftp and scp utilities.
While not recommended you can setup a ftp server.

WinSCP runs on Windows XP SP2 which is a GUI sftp client.
