15 RC 1 - Sound problem intel_hda

I use a notebook ASUS TUF Gaming FX 705 and installed 15 RC 1 without problems. The system runs stable and everything works but the sound. I could not any sound. I followed the Slackware hardware guide
https://docs.slackware.com/howtos:ha..._snd-hda-intel
but it did not help.

open pavuctrl and set your output device per application. If running kde5 plasma you can set it per application just like pavucrtl that would be the speaker icon on the left at the bottom right. Click it it shows device and aplictions.
Good luck.
Most of all do not mess with the configs on that you will have issues down the road.
But you can configure the mixer icon on the left it is same as pavuctrl.
Make sure your up to date we are on 5.14.5 now.
test it on my video

I believe the above
https://docs.slackware.com/howtos:ha..._snd-hda-intel
really doesn't do much for slackware current
that was pretty much used up to slackware 14.2.
With full integration of pulseaudio that is handled a tad different.
It will not hurt anything.
If using a laptop I would advise to set up /etc/lilo.conf to use
the generic kernel
and intrid.gz.
Code:
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/sda1
  label = Linux
  read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz-generic
initrd=/boot/initrd.gz
  root = /dev/sda1
  label = Linux-generic
  read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends
after editing the /etc/lilo.conf
as root you must run "lilo" in a terminal
or /sbin/lilo
now make sure you have the /etc/slackpkg/mirror
set to current because 15.0 isn't on the servers yet.
Code:
# UNITED STATES (US)
# ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/nv/ao2/lxmirror/ftp.slackware.com/slackware64-current/
# ftp://mirror.cs.princeton.edu/pub/mirrors/slackware/slackware64-current/
# ftp://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/slackware/slackware64-current/
# ftp://mirrors.us.kernel.org/slackware/slackware64-current/
 http://mirrors.us.kernel.org/slackware/slackware64-current/   <-------- note I un-commented out the hash
# ftp://mirrors.xmission.com/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://mirrors.xmission.com/slackware/slackware64-current/
# https://mirror.slackbuilds.org/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://slackware.mirrors.pair.com/slackware64-current/
# ftp://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://spout.ussg.indiana.edu/linux/slackware/slackware64-current/
# ftp://teewurst.cc.columbia.edu/pub/linux/slackware/slackware64-current/
# http://teewurst.cc.columbia.edu/pub/linux/slackware/slackware64-current/
then make sure you always do this and you can keep it as a script.
name it slackupdate
Code:
#!/bin/bash
#slackupdater
slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
geninitrd
lilo
you can do these commands or save as a script.
every time you upgrade the kernel lilo must be ran.
If using generic kernel
run geninitrd creates that.
lilo remaps the kernel.

@lovemeslk That sounds really good. But I have to use eliloconf because of UEFI boot. My elilo.conf:
chooser=simple
delay=1
timeout=1
#
image=vmlinuz
label=vmlinuz
initrd=initrd.gz
read-only
append="root=/dev/sda3 vga=normal ro"

I don't know how to edit elilo instead of lilo.

+ slackpkg clean-system (for removed pkg, even if it is not every day)

@OP

You have a SOF device for your built-in audio.

That's bad news, because you need SOF firmware, etc.

Anyway, a dirty way to fix your issue looks being described there:

https://itectec.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-so...ing-on-ubuntu/

BUT, I recommend you to research about this SOF support on Linux.

Thanks a lot. That did it!

The solution was very easy and fast to do. Now I have normal sound.
