I think it is important and useful to realize that one of the top advantage features of running Slackware is one does not have to wait for some repository to get around to adpating software, especially kernels and drivers, to suit some specific init system and package manager. It really isn't hard to build your own from source and that's what it really means to be vanilla. It isn't an empty claim. It's an important benefit.
