Could it be possible to port Gentoo s eselect program?

or have something similar in Slackware? to be able to deal with more versions of the same package.

I think that porting and using such tool would require system-wide changes. What packages in different versions do you exactly need? In example, Python and Ruby already have solution for this use case.

You can probably use container (there's a Gentoo docker image) or in virtual machine in order to have full benefits of eselect.

Usually you install stuff to /opt/ when you want multiple versions.

For example I did this for wine.

@orbea: in your git repository I see that you take great care to test your scripts with many shells, maybe also with fish? In case you didn't come across it yet:

@Didier Spair Fish like csh, rc and some others are entirely incompatible with bourne shells, it would require entirely new scripts which is not something I'm interested in. Personally my preferred shells are yash and mksh.

thats whats i was looking for Orbea!!!

i used Gentoo for some years, i want to install another distro in other drive, i can t decide between Exherbo (similar to Gentoo) or Slackware (a lot different to Gentoo).
modifying slackbuilds will i have the same customization as Gentoo say for example firefox without pulseaudio?

FWIW firefox in Slackware is already built with alsa as a sound backend, not pulseaudio.
