By the way, I'm running into a problem with a hybrid graphics laptop on any kernel newer than 5.4.48. The latest rc doesn't fix it, so it looks like I'll have to bisect. I have the GTX 1650 Max-Q set in the BIOS to always on to bypass the hybrid system.
Any newer kernel I get literally millions of these in /var/log/syslog until the machine finally locks up hard:
Anyone else? Figured I'd get some people that use machines with hybrid graphics to look at it here. Searching online it would almost seem that I'm the only one.
Uhmm, my kid (the owner of the laptop) is using the closed source nvidia driver together wit bumblebee because he wanted to play Enemy Territory Quake Wars which does not play well on intel GMA cards. Right now I see no problems on his /var/log/syslog, nor anywhere else. The machine is running smoothly. If I have the time I'll switch back to nouveau to see what happens.
I can't speak to issues with newer kernels as I tend to be quite conservative in my kernel upgrades. However, in case anyone was wondering how to set up Nvidia Optimus with the proprietary nvidia drivers (NOT nouveau), via the newer method, which does not utilize bumblebee, see this README I prepared a few months ago:
