I'm following the backport guide.
https://wiki.debian.org/SimpleBackportCreation
Have followed all steps and the result is the same regardless of fakeroot or dpkg-buildpackage. The only difference is fakeroot returns the error in a few seconds, dpkg returns the error after compiling stuff for a good while. Doing it on my laptop so not exactly a speed demon for compiling.
I'm trying to switch my environment to Debian from Ubuntu. Ubuntu has been wonderful but I desire something a bit more concrete and reliable, at least where dist-upgrades are concerned. I want something that I don't even have to question about relying on it. I've successfully managed to backport Kodi so far. The only things I need to backport or change for my use is Chromium, Kodi, and I need to get Mythtv-backend from either the Ubuntu repos (backport from there) or build from source directly. Other than those couple things Debian fits my bill perfectly.
