Install syslog-ng on OpenSUSE

Hello.
I want to install "syslog-ng" on OpenSUSE leap 42.3 but I got below error:

# zypper install syslog-ng
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
Resolving package dependencies...

Problem: systemd-logger-228-62.1.x86_64 conflicts with namespace:otherproviders(syslog) provided by syslog-ng-3.8.1-4.2.x86_64
 Solution 1: deinstallation of systemd-logger-228-62.1.x86_64
 Solution 2: do not install syslog-ng-3.8.1-4.2.x86_64

How can I solve this conflict?

syslog-ng is the "old" method of logging, systemd is the "new" one.

So you have to make a decision........

Can it offer all syslog-ng features? Where is the config file and how can I configure it?

Read the documentation; there is a LOT. Check their website...do basic research and show at least *SOME* effort of your own.

And asking "can syslog-ng offer all of syslog-ng's features" seems like it answers itself, doesn't it?

If you want syslog-ng, you have to choose #1: deinstallation of systemd-logger

Which feature of syslog-ng are you looking for? Most of the syslog-ng features are enabled in the package in openSUSE. Some of the features require extra dependencies, those are available in subpackages, like syslog-ng-geoip.

Some of the features can't be included in the distro due to missing dependencies or packaging guide line restrictions (like Java-based destination drivers depending on JAR files, like HDFS). If you need one of these features, I recommend using my unofficial syslog-ng repo for openSUSE/SLES: https://www.syslog-ng.com/community/...-distributions The current syslog-ng version is 3.19
