xfce not started in init 4, kde is started, although xfce was chosen during installation
Hello, while installing 14.2 I chose xfce as window manager. And indeed, when in init 3 phase if I issue startx then xfce is started. But when I code init 4 in inittab, then after a restart kde is started and not xfce. I had the impression that since startx starts xcfe, then in init 4 also xcfe would be started. Is there any other change I should have made apart from the inittab part?

You should be able to select Xfce on your display manager's login screen. When you switch to init 4 the display manager ignores .xinitrc (set by xwmconfig and used by startx) and uses .xsession instead.

Runlevel 4 should bring up an X login screen (probably KDM). There's a button that allows you to select the window manager to use after login. You'll get a pull-down with XFCE as one of the choices.
in run level 4 is gui login you have to select the desktop you want before you login, like any other login manager. in run level 3 as you picked xfce4 to be your default login then it is,
Code:
xwmconfig
to change desktop / window managers before you startx.
