Welcome (6mo)old timer!

You accidentally knocked your question out of 'zero reply threads' visibility, by posting a reply, rather than editing the new information into the original (#1) post ;(
(FYI, maybe post the output of `stat` on the relevant stuck file/dir, and the directory containing it)

I would definitely take one of my old $10 netbooks to the beach and use hotspot on my cell phone.
(But I would not want to get sand in my beautiful new $40 Dell E6410. Well, maybe my old $40 HP with the BCM43142 [103c:804a] Wi-Fi that needs annoying non-freeware manual intervention)
