My answer'll be short. Good article. Valid. A great thing to do would be to redirect there from the registration page (and have a checkbox to click confirming you've read it - and then a popup asking again...). That'd give first-timers an idea of how to get an answer...
Where do I click to actually be able to type in a search term so I can go to the proper forum and ask my questions? I click on the "search" tab top center of screen and it like glitches to this ad and I cant type anything. Any and all help would be greatly apreciated
How to insert a reference to a thread into a post?
Well, I'm ready to ask my first question, having searched for an existing answer. I found a thread that almost answers it, but none of the solutions worked for me. I want to mention in my post that I found that one, but it seems to me that the best way would be to point to it directly instead of saying "thread titled X in forum Y"; so how would I insert that reference? I think maybe what you tell me ought to be part of "How to Ask a Question".

Just copy-paste the link of the thread, e.g. for this thread, the link would be

Hi new to this site. I tried adding pictures to my post to help describe my issue but it did not work. How do i add pictures?
Thanks
Welcome to LQ,
When you are editing your post, you can select Advanced Edit mode and in there you will see some of the typical widgets for controlling text or also adding links and files.
You'll see the paperclip icon to allow you to add a file. Note that this capability is not available for all forums, for instance "this" forum and I'd suspect some of the open discussion forums as well. But in a technical forum and a technical question, you can add a file.
The widget will bring up a new window to allow you to attach a file, it's a bit unusual to work with, and there are limits to the total size of files you can attach. Therefore some people use common image sites and provide a link to their photos or images.
Joined this forum today, have two distributions on two notebooks straight from the factory. Refreshing to use Linux! Actually helps me in work! Of course, questions arise. Will pursue here. Thank you everyone.
It's better not to "necrobump" old threads. Start a new one. This one was last referenced in 2020! We have a special "Newbie Introductions" forum for people to say hello. But welcome to the forums anyway. And welcome to Linux.
