There's $(dos2unix) and $(unix2dos) if you're talking about the different carriage return styles. \n vs \n\r vs \r or whatever mac was/is. 0x0a versus 0x0a + 0x0d versus 0x0d at the end of each line of text. Only used linux \n for a very long time now so not soo sure about those other things anymore. Doing a binary transfer means that it retains the original file byte for byte and does not convert carriage returns or other conversions like it would in ascii mode. (or ebcdic mode / mainframe).
