Looking for a Computer on a Module with mSATA or M.2 connectivity for an SSD
Hi
I'm looking for a CoM (Computer on a Module) that has WIFI and mSATA or M.2 on board to allow an SSD to connect to it, and that can run Linux. (i don't need high-end processor and about 1GB of memory should be enough)
The closest i got to finding what i need is the Banana Pi BPI-W2 Single Board Computer (SBC), it has WIFI and SATA and M.2, but its way to big for my needs because it's an SBC and not a CoM.
any assistance in that matter would be very much appriciated
Nothing may match your requirements of "smaller than a Banana Pi W2, but containing an on board mSATA. However here is one suggestion for products, I'm sure there are plenty of others, and I do not believe any of those NXP options would be suitable because they do not appear to have either of PCIe or mSATA available.
Considering that you've brought up size, I'd only guess that power and more details about the size may be important. For instance if power is important, then you'll likely wish to migrate towards a Cortex M variant which uses less power than the Cortex A series, in general. And for size, the modules I've noted here are 47x30mm, so it would be helpful to know if that still is too large. Considering that you also cited WIFI, it would be notable to know how much power you need for that as well as what type of antenna you expected to use with it.
Otherwise your options head back towards the Pi, the Hummingboard, or other SOMs that have pre-developed carrier board options.
I do not have power limitations as this project is aimed to be running indoor.
47X30 mm is a good size, as long as it has wifi and an ability to connect SSD to it
(by mPCIe, mSATA or M.2)
regarding the WIFI antenna, i want the project to fit a regular house wifi, so any 3dB - 5dB antenna would be enough i think.
Thank you all, iv'e made my choice and i picked the HummingBoard Pro eventually.
it is small enough, can run Linux, has on-board WIFI and the connectivity for an mSATA SSD.
now i'm looking for a ~ 2 - 3 inch screen that can be connected to it. any suggestions ? (i'm assuming it will be connected thru the LVDS)
