Angry K3B thinks my CDWriter is just a reader

I'm trying to get K3B to work, but it "sees" my CDWriter (a GCE-8525B) as just a reader, and thus doesn't allow me to burn a CD.

When I use the K3B setup program, at the 2nd screen (configuring CD devices) my device appears under "READERS", and there are no options under "WRITERS" -- and I cannot manage to make my device appear there, where it should be.

What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem, have you tried a different program? xcdroast works fine with SuSE 8.2, I tell you it's much better than k3b.

Maybe your aren't using scsi emulation? Usually you need to enable scsi emulation for ide writers to write with them in Linux. If your writer has a regular ide name like /dev/hdc, then scsi emulation probably isn't enabled for it. Try using the command 'cdrecord -scanbus' to see the devices in a terminal/command-line.

Try making seperate devices: one for CDR and one for CDRW. Then, be sure your using an automount.
