Can Unbuntu Be Installed on an External SSD / HD?


I have a question. I would like too know if I can install Unbuntu , too an External HD , SSD ...and boot into it as a second OS on a current new laptop?

A web search for "install linux external drive" will turn up many resources, many of which specifically apply to Ubuntu.
