How to install a potentially dangerous social media software such wechat on arch based linux ?
Hii,
I would like to install this china social software : wechat. I have heard a lot of bad stuff of wechat under dictatorship regime.
I am not even sure wechat is safe to use or not. But i want to use it to communicate with someone who only use wechat.
Hence i want to jail the wechat when i install it.
What are the method to restrain wechat from making hard to my os ? or from spying or anything a dictator country can think of.
What are the possible soln to my concern ?
In windowsOS i used virtual machine and sandbox; But in linux what is the equivalent ?
1.oracle virtualbox.
2. what else ?
Also, i have tried a few wechat package in depo, but non work.. i didn't try snap yet... I tried to "build" but failed.
There are a few wechat in AUR wewechat, electron wechat, both failed. have not try snap electronic wechat. .. some ppl said leave snap as last resource to try.. why ? snap apk is no good ?
You could take a look at LXC. It is basically a "chroot on steroids". You can run it in an isolated chroot environment and it will execute alot faster than on a virtual machine.
Caveat: It has a moderately steep learning curve.
I know not everyone is a fan of snaps but as far as I understand they are sandboxed quite nicely. This is probably the easiest most user friendly way to do it. Don't understand what you mean by build. Can snapd not be installed from the repositories? Forgive me, not an Arch user.
