PayPal is at PayPal.com. Can you spell phishing?

Personally, I prefer Square to PayPal...But both work.

Interestingly the main things about that domain name check out. It's got a LONG registration (2011) and has a Extended Verification SSL certificate from a "known good" CA. The Whois information also checks out.

I'd still be going through a normal PayPal "front door" though!

I don't know. That's a question for the vendor(s). I use square on-line only (an on-line "store") in a browser. All my interactions with PayPal have been via a browser.

I've seen businesses use Square with tablets (iPads?) and credit card readers. I've never seen a brick-and-mortar store use PayPal, but that's (apparently) an option. Still...if you want to know how these things work, and what they cost, ask the vendors. With Square, at least, you can just call them on the phone. Probably can do with PayPal, too.
