Boot/Partition Question on Acer Aspire

I have just tried the latest Sabayon release on the cover disc of Linux Format and to be honest I was blown away.

I have never used Linux before and the fact that all of my drivers and peripherals worked perfectly was very impressive.

WiFi connected without a hitch and the desktop looked gorgeous.

OK - I am now at the install stage booting from a DVD.

The Anaconda install manager has a range of options but I am hesitant to 'hit the switch'.

One of the options is to use the existing space allowed under the Windows partition to install Sabayon...does this mean that I will have the option to dual boot at BIOS?

I need to maintain my Windows 7 OS for various bespoke software for work.

I would recommend to cancel the installation here. Start Windows and use the Windows partition manager to shrink your Windows partition, so that you have that amount of free space that you want to give to your linux installation. Then start the installation again and let the installer use the free space.

First finish your windows 7 and then go ahead with your linux .

Be carefull what ever distro you may choose but dont select the entire disk after the windows on it, It will use the entire Hard disk instead of free hard disk space

Currently typing this response via Chromium on Sabayon :-D

I had some real trouble shrinking the Windows 7 partition as the MFT was in the way. I had to disable the page file and turn off system restore. Luckily a Microsoft moderator recommended the EaseUS Partition Manager which helped me free up 60gb for the install.

After that the install was a breeze.

Fine. Let us wait a little, I have seen many people loving the OS the first few days and then reverting to Windows. Of course I hope that is not the case for you.
