Glad to see someone agrees.

It would be wise imho not to delete the offending files/dirs before sorting the disk surface. This way at least the space is counted as allocated. If the file and/or directory was successfully removed, the space would be reallocated.

Once bad sectors are marked bad, things can proceed. Hopefully, it's only the sectors are affected, but a serious smartctl eye should be kept on that disk.

@OP: How old is the disk?

NTFS corruption IS a hardware issue and CAN present in this way. Fixing the corruption allows normal manipulation of the storage.
