just in case you are not aware of them

Hey I don't know what's the best but i can suggest some that i know just in case you are not aware of them. I believe these distros were designed for music/content creations. This is in no particular order.
AV Linux, Ubuntu Studio, Slackware64-Live-DAW, Fedora Jam

It might be that a commercial real time distro would be the best. However they do have patches for (near) real time. That doesn't fully mean that all drivers are real time compliant and you may need to fool with a number of settings to get things as fast as you may need.

Music production may not need real time also. Depends on what you are doing.

As noted by knet, a number or audio video distro's exist.

Ignore the two Slackware users — that's not easy for beginners, even though the quality is good. Look at these

Ubuntu Studio
AV Linux

and try them out — you can run them from the installation media to see if you like them before actually installing one.

Some reports of working under wine.

They have linux versions. The files are a tape archive that is compressed. .tar.gz

You'd have to download it and look at the instructions or find them on reaper site.https://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Sorry to be blunt, but that's a BS requirement to have in the first place. If you cannot let go of your Windows software, well then just use Windows to run it, no?

If you can change your usage habits, lots of wonderful Linux software exists, and whole distros pre-bundled and pre-configured.

And a beautiful little site that does not use any javascript, the lack of of https is acceptable imo:

Linux and Audio-Music Production

@seymoursax

I agree somewhat with @ondoho - but I'd like to add a few notes to be fair and promote a potential path to express your self with Linux. - Windows is a total pain in the ass with audio compared to macOS - so if you're looking for easy (I am supersized you haven't already found your way to a Mac) "they've kinda built a reputation for being easy and just working"
I am a long time every platform computer user and have a few of everything lol - Windows is great don't get me wrong.
They all have a place - Linux does a bunch of different things that make me express myself in different ways...
I lean to experimental stuff / lots of synths / effects / strange routing-signal flow "some strengths in linux"

I would answer your question like this - Dive into a few distros and prepare to nuke and pave a bunch (get an old cheep laptop you can experiment with and start leaning) "i nuke and pave my linux machines really often lol - but i maintain basic scripts that allow me to install everything i want really easily...

You will learn a lot and likely appreciate windows a little more / find a love for macOs and if you're a nerd enough to appreciate the power / awesome sound quality / flexibility (freedom) and rabbit hole of possibility for creative process / awesome community of linux and open source users - more than the time you will have to spend reading and configuring then you will become a linux audio wizard but it will take some time - get started > you wouldn't be here if you didn't have any desire - and ya what kind of question was that about anyway? this is linux.... it is not windows - its more similar to macOS but it is very far from just working and being easy (unless you're just using a web browser all day)

Best of Luck - I recommend getting ubuntu studio so you can have some easy fun - and then try configuring fedora with plannetCCMRA - and then maybe check out they guys on your tube using Arch for music production -
this guy has loads of good information youtube unfa - or just google music production you tube linux lol
&& you need to get past the what distro should i use question to be a mega lord.... (build your own)

Fedora is another choice. There is a spin called 'fedora jam' that is explicitly designed for audio management.
