After install of nautilus-admin it is not necessary to run this from the command line anymore. You'll get "Open as Administrator" and "Start as Administrator" menu entries in the right-click menu in the file manager:

Thumbs up

shruggy, that works like a charm. Thanks!!!

Just one more question. Whenever I hit Alt-F2 or Ctrl-Alt-F2 while using Debian, all that happens is that my sound volume is turned down to zero. Is this really supposed to open a text console? My computer starts up with Gnome but I also installed KDE, though I haven't tried KDE yet.

Is it a laptop? Most laptops and even some desktop keyboards have a Fn key. On some models you must press Fn+F2 to get the normal function of the F2 key. So try Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F2. Yes, it gets a bit unwieldy .

BTW, when I said Alt+F2 above I didn't mean changing to a virtual console. Alt+F2 inside GNOME/KDE/XFCE et al. invokes "Launch an application" prompt, akin to Win+R in Windows.

Smile

Many thanks again shruggy!

On my laptop, it was Alt-Fn-F2 that worked.
