is that trying to tell you that you are trying to create a partition with a hdd that is in use?
of course it is a no you cannot. either unmount it. or boot a usb live stick with gparted then in that create your partitions.
even a partition table is the same. the hdd cannot be in use.
I am 'a Slacker.' Your disk is formatted with either gdisk or fdisk. Run fdisk first, because it tells you to use gdisk if it finds a gpt disk.
If you have a UEFI system, I think only gdisk does that. You always need an install dvd or a live usb disk to run the box while you fart about with the disk, in case you delete yourself :-/. I Recommend a backup first though.
