Scientific Linux doesn't return from suspend after latest update
I am running Scientific Linux which is a repackaged version of RHEL on a laptop with an AMD/Radeon integrated chipset.
I was running 7.4 without any problems and it was rock solid. I have a dual boot machine so I also had Ubuntu 18.04 alongside it, but I had a bunch of problems and had to switch to Linux Mint which is still based on Ubuntu 16.04. So for a while, I had two versions of Linux running well.
Then Scientific Linux (SL) updated to 7.5 and after the update, I couldn't boot SL anymore. It hung at the waiting for Plymouth to end script. I did not give up. I went to the SL website and downloaded SL again, this time 7.5. Well, I have it now so that it boots and all is fine and good except for one major problem which plagued me in Ubuntu 18.04 until I got rid of it.
The system does not come back from suspend. Well, maybe it's more correct to say the screen doesn't return and the only way to get it back is to forceably switch off the computer. But then I lose all my work. I had this exact problem with Ubuntu 18.04 and it was one of the reasons why I uninstalled Ubuntu. I think it might be a video driver problem, and I think there is a problem with the latest drivers as they apply to my computerl
Is there something I can do to fix this problem on SL? I'd hate to have to uninstall it becaise I use SL for work.

I have no clue on rpm distros. So take my post with a grain of salt.
Thanks. dmesg|tail just brings back several lines about Bluetooth. /var/log is a directory, and I'm not sure where to begin looking.
Something new just happened. The system came back from suspend and I logged in without any problems. Then after about 10 or 20 seconds the screen went blank then came back then it threw me out to the login screen again. I logged in again and everything worked normally this time.

Hibernate or suspend ?. What kernel ?.
I had a bunch of trouble with an old Mobilty Radeon in my Fedora laptop a while back - resorted to disabling some options for the radeon driver, but it all cleared up with recent kernels.
From memory suspend was better, but I haven't attempted hibernation in quite a while because it was broken so badly.

Suspend. Hibernate does not work for me.
As to the kernel, I'll have to get back to you on that because I'm on a different system right now. It's an older LTS kernel which I gather is normal for Enterprise Linux.
