My OS is Tarhpup 6.0.5
The Quickpet function allows me to install Libre Office 4.3.2.2 by default
But the user interface is only in english ( the tools/option/language settings/user interface of LO desn't show another language ); does someone know the easier way to change it in french language ?

Ta distribution devrait proposer un paquet du style "libreoffice-fr", si ce n'est pas le cas tu n'as plus qu'à le télécharger depuis le site

Les divers dépôts proposés par Tarhpup 4.3.2.2 ne mentionnent pas le packlang en français.
Via le forum Murga Puppy linux j'ai pu récupérer le langpack_libreoffice_fr-4.3 qui doit être un paquet "pet" mais je ne connais pas la procédure d'installation.

Si tu as l'info, suis preneur.

Non je ne connais pas du tout la famille de distributions que tu utilises.

Sorry to bring you back down to earth again with using English, but it is the language most people on this forum understand, I'm sorry to have to say..!

I learnt some schoolboy French many, many years ago (and actually found it easier to learn than most of my classmates), but beyond 'Bonjour' and 'Bonsoir' and 'Comment allez-vous?' (and stuff like that), I've long since forgotten most of it.

What I think Stéphane (see, my font switcher does work) is trying to tell you is to install the L.O 4.3.x.x fr_langpack. If you download the French language pack from here, then a single-click to install it, like any other Puppy .pet package, is all that's required, OK?

If you then open Libre Office, and go into Tools->Options->Language Settings->Languages, you should be able to set French as your default language via the options in the right-hand panel. You'll probably need to shut L.O. down, then re-start it again to see the changes.

Let us know if that helps at all. Sounds like Stéphane doesn't know Puppy, so it's not surprising he doesn't know about the .pet packages, either..!

You'll soon learn that the majority of software for Puppy is in fact held in cloud accounts, etc, by many of the Puppy Linux Forum members. If you look in 'Additional Software (Pets'n'stuff)' under 'Advanced Topics' in the murga-linux Forum Index, that's where you'll find all the threads about software that's been built for Puppy by Puppy users...

es Stephane doesn't know Puppy. In fact I install this OS on an old PC in order to
learn a little about Linux; I must admit it's somewhat disturbing for a 64 years person
who try to let down Windows.

OK I downloaded the PET, it appears to be a compressed file langpack_libreoffice_4.3.gz.
This file is on my data HD ( SD3 ) while Puppy is on SD1.

In which directory do I install it before clicking on it ?

Where did you download the package from? Did you use the link I gave you in the last post? It should have led you to here:-

I don't understand why you've mentioned it being a .gz package, you see. If you downloaded the package from the above page, you should have, in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded it to), the following package:-

langpack_libreoffice_fr-4.3.pet

With .pet packages, you don't need to move them to any specific location. If the .pet package has been built correctly (and this has, because I've checked it myself.....and I also know 'VicMZ', the person who built it), then a single-click upon that package, anywhere in the file-system, will bring up a window asking you to confirm that yes, you wish to install the package. When you click 'OK', the package will automatically install itself into the correct location.

We do try to build Puppy packages so that they are as easy as possible to install!

Mike was talking about english speaking here on LQ, not in LO, and despite his lack of french comprehension he understood everything.

Well I try it recently and found it to be almost unusable, I prefer AntiX(but need further testing). And I'm very sure that beginning in Posix world with Puppy, coming from micro$oft world, isn't a very good idea.

Isn't there any LUG near you? France(if it's the french-speaking state you're living in) is very well covered by them.

proposes only to un-zip the file and then to store it ( see attached file );
it seems I have no other choice.

First, thanks for your cooperation,
I don't know why but when I tried to download the pet file then systematically
the file was converted in a .gz file and I had no choice.
So I find another solution: from another PC with Windows OS ( I know, it's bad )
I downloaded the pet file on an USB key.
Then I transfered it to the root directory of my Puptahr based PC and I clicked on it.
Now the LO french package is installed and it works well.

Good, good. You got to your destination by a slightly unorthodox route, but you've achieved what you set out to do.....and that's the main thing.

That business with a .pet download turning out as a .GZ extension when saved.....don't ask me why, but it's a peculiarity of using Opera in Puppy. Especially that version. It's quite an old one, you see; it's the last 'true' Opera, as far as some people are concerned. They didn't like it when the Opera devs moved to a Chromium 'Blink' base..!

problem of downloading.
