I recently installed Mandrake on a second computer, and am having what I deem to be a strange problem. Hopefully with some help I can get it sorted out.
I have both a DVD-R and a CD drive. The DVD-R drive runs anything I throw at it. The CD drive will work with any data CDs I put in it. However, it will not do anything with audio discs. If I try to manually add the audio files to something like XMMS, the folder displays as if it is completely blank when it obviously is not.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before, is it easily fixable, and if so how would that be done?
the folder is correct to be blank. audio cd's do not contain a file system. what you're expecting is the result of Windows basically lying to you. you need to play audio cd's by reference to the block device, e.g. /dev/hdc
Same problem here. I tried doing "dev/cdrom0", "dev/cdrom1" and "dev/cdrom2" and nothing works. It has to be set as "mnt/cdrom" for it to read the cd in my DVD drive.
Question for you: you can open them on the DVD drive, can you just listen to the cd though? I have to rip the CD with Grip and then play it in XMMS or Amarok.
Zoe F: This might be a cable issue.
Your second cd drive probably hasn't got an audio cable going to the sound card, as, AFAIK, most sound cards only have one CD -IN connection.
You might be able to resolve this by adding another audio cable and connecting it to the motherboard if your mobo has a suitable connection for it. You'd need to check this out in your mobo manual.
