eth0 not connecting
ok I just installed 10.1 and eth0 will not connect. I have disabled the onboard nic and installed a 3com pci card to see if it was a bad driver but it does the same thing on the 3com card. It shows it when I go to hardware and when I run the config tool for it it completes successfully however it still will not connect! Can some one please help?

How are you configuring it Static or Dynamic?
Are you using a cable/dsl router? Can you ping the router IP? If you have another computer on the network and using a router then logon to the router with the other machine to see if there are any errors or if it is seen. Can you ping the computer from another computer on the network? Do you have mac filtering turned on on the router? Lets see what happens. Brian1 |
Do you mean you can't connect to the internet? If yes, check out the Network settings and make sure of the following:
eth0 is active You have given in the correct DNS Server addresses Hope this helps -A |
Yes I am using a cable modem and a motorola router. This box has worked fine with winblows and with Centos 4.1. I just wanted Mandrake cause multimedia stuff is much easier. Anyway, I have it set for DHCP and I cannot ping the router. I get host unreachable. Its as though the nic is not active but I havetried what I know how to do. Any thoughts?

Does the machine get and IP similiar to others?
Is the machine's IP in the same class C as the routers lan side IP? Brian1 |
yes I gave it a static just to try. Now it says the network is up on eth0 but it isnt connected. Now what?
|
i would try putting back to dhcp and show us the output of
ifconfig |
ok I will but I am reinstalling first as I just upgraded the bios on the machine. Its a Dell Dimension so I figured I should upgrade the bios and try again.

Same Problem
I have the same Problem I to just installed Mandrake 10.1 but cant get on line wit it but my other pc with xp is ok
here is what my Linksys router has... Firmware Version: 1.55.02, May 21 2004 Current Time: Jul. 03 2006 Mon. 10:04:52 MAC Address: 00-0C-6E-3B-39-CD Status Login Type: DHCP Internet IP Address: 69.73.126.173 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 69.73.126.1 DNS 1: 69.1.30.27 DNS 2: 69.1.30.26 DNS 3: 0.0.0.0 can any one tell me what I need to do in Mandrake 10.1 to get it on line? Thanks in Advance! migraine@knology.net |
I used the Mandriva Control Centre
I set this up the non-geek way. The MCC has an interface "Network & Internet" > Set up a new network interface > ADSL > etc. I had to install a nVidia driver because Mandriva was not recognising the installed driver. Now it recognises both. So it thinks I have two eth0s plus the unknown sit0 which it found before recognising the eth0 twice.
I've got Mandriva 2006 but the controls look the same as Mandriva 2005 on my old machine. |
I dumped Mandriva
I could not get my router or cable modem to work in it...I installed suse 10.1 it got my cablemodem set up as well as my sound downloaded the up dates and is working...now just got to figure out how to get my Magic color 2430dl network laser to run , the system log said driver installed but could not find hardware ....and my scaner/fax buy brother ..mfc 420cn i s on the network as well...But i s not seen I will check if brother has any linux drivers later
suse even sees my xp setup and lets me see the files on it... it sees I have a another xp system on the network but I have to figure on how to set that up....but 1 day at a time ... Now just got to figure out how to use it all...."as I all ready know Linux is not windows" migraine@knology.net |
I have the same problem with you guys :( I've switched from SuSE to Mandriva. Everything worked perfectly except the internet thingy. I couldn't connect the eth0. It was only able to send data but not receive data when I use network monitor. I used the exact configuration with win xp:
Internet IP Address: 192.168.1.32 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1 Please help me, internet is so important nowadays. |
This post may help.

Um, just to let everyone know how much a nob I was...
I had this same problem and it turned out I was selecting the "linux-secure" from the startup menu. This apparently makes the network card look fine etc but does not allow any internet connects (as far as I could see). I changed the startup to the "linux" one and my network problems went away. Just a thought.... |
