eth0 not connecting

ok I just installed 10.1 and eth0 will not connect. I have disabled the onboard nic and installed a 3com pci card to see if it was a bad driver but it does the same thing on the 3com card. It shows it when I go to hardware and when I run the config tool for it it completes successfully however it still will not connect! Can some one please help?

Thanks

How are you configuring it Static or Dynamic?
Are you using a cable/dsl router?
Can you ping the router IP?
If you have another computer on the network and using a router then logon to the router with the other machine to see if there are any errors or if it is seen.
Can you ping the computer from another computer on the network?
Do you have mac filtering turned on on the router?

Lets see what happens.

Do you mean you can't connect to the internet? If yes, check out the Network settings and make sure of the following:

eth0 is active
You have given in the correct DNS Server addresses

Hope this helps

Yes I am using a cable modem and a motorola router. This box has worked fine with winblows and with Centos 4.1. I just wanted Mandrake cause multimedia stuff is much easier. Anyway, I have it set for DHCP and I cannot ping the router. I get host unreachable. Its as though the nic is not active but I havetried what I know how to do. Any thoughts?

Does the machine get and IP similiar to others?
Is the machine's IP in the same class C as the routers lan side IP?

I used the Mandriva Control Centre

I set this up the non-geek way. The MCC has an interface "Network & Internet" > Set up a new network interface > ADSL > etc. I had to install a nVidia driver because Mandriva was not recognising the installed driver. Now it recognises both. So it thinks I have two eth0s plus the unknown sit0 which it found before recognising the eth0 twice.

I've got Mandriva 2006 but the controls look the same as Mandriva 2005 on my old machine.

I have the same problem with you guys I've switched from SuSE to Mandriva. Everything worked perfectly except the internet thingy. I couldn't connect the eth0. It was only able to send data but not receive data when I use network monitor. I used the exact configuration with win xp:
Internet IP Address: 192.168.1.32
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
Please help me, internet is so important nowadays.

Um, just to let everyone know how much a nob I was...

I had this same problem and it turned out I was selecting the "linux-secure" from the startup menu. This apparently makes the network card look fine etc but does not allow any internet connects (as far as I could see). I changed the startup to the "linux" one and my network problems went away.

Just a thought....
