Howdy Y'all
Howdy everyone, and greeting from the home of the Kentucky Derby. I have toyed around with Linux once or twice before, and had nothing but nightmares with it, but a few months back I decided to give it another go, and must say I've never felt better about a decision. I now have all of my personal computers running Linux (mostly Ubuntu, but getting ready to tinker with a Gentoo setup), as well as my dads and one of my friends. I am a bit of a wannabe programmer, every thing I know, which isn't much, is self taught. I came to Linux originally as a Microsoft fanboy and to be honest, pretty much despised open source software as a whole. I have since come to my senses and realized how important open source communities really are, and how far behind in technology we would be if it wasn't for them. I've run into a few minor obstacles since switching over to Linux completely, but now my mindset has changed, and where before I use to look at them as hassles that were easier to go back to Windows, now I see them as challenges to overcome. Linux has completely changed the way I look at computers for the better, and made me appreciate them more, and also made me more curious as to how they actually work in the innards. I'm looking forward to when I know enough that I can compile my own kernel and actually know what's going on.
P.S. - I know this sounds all gushy and everything, but I'm still on my newbie Linux high/honeymoon :-)
