I am 73 years old and have been using Linux on laptops and desktop since the OS was first introduced in the early nineties. First it was just for learning something new. Then for years when windows OS was struggling and a stable XP came in use I was using dual booting with most of my work done on the Linux partition. The only use of windows was to use Office so that office documents were compatible since everyone was using MS Office.

Now I am partly retired. I promoted a Management Consulting company and a Software company developing e-learning platforms in open source using Moodle. I do not take any executive role in the companies but am on the Board of 3 companies.

I am by profession a Chemical Engineer and started using computers and software for chemical engineering work. Subsequently, I used desktop computing for inventory and purchase management using the data generated by the mainframe IBM computers.

Nice to read your post, 73 years old and yet on the tracks!

I came here with this nickname looking for a new hope to my life and thinking maybe I'm a bit old to restart everything! I'm in the middle os 30's crysis, I give look to the past and see so much time lost in games, funs and with almost no resposability or saves....

Now I'm 30, back to college doing the six semester of computer science, I was off for almost 2 years, so I'll have to rush and learn a LOT for recovery the time that has gone and be in good shape when gratuate.

If someone close to you, came with this background history asking you a life advice, with your experience life and IT field what would you sugest?
I know that this time I'll do good, and for sure I'm on the right place, and with the right mindsite wich is important too, here seens to be a nice community.

Hope to keep on track and learn a lot with all on this forum, and you for sure have a LOT to share with others.

Hello ashokabs and welcome to the LQ forum.

Many thanks to all those who welcomed me to this Forum. Actually I must have first used it in the early 2000s when I was learning Linux and I am back now.

My journey to using computers started in college. I learnt the basics of FORTRAN. Never did anything with it. Next step was buying a programmable handheld computer using BASIC with an attached printer and micro cassette for storage. This really got me going till I was writing programs for designing heat exchangers, NOx absorption equipment for Nitric Acid plants. I gave the output of my heat exchanger program to the Head Mechanical Design. He confirmed my design was accurate - took me 2 mins and took his engineer more than half a day!! This is what really got me started on computers. My only advice is life is continuous learning and enjoy the journey. There are ups and downs but just keep going.
