On your linux machine, goto system settings > network. Go to DNS tab, and enter the primary and secondary DNS addresses that you can see in your windows internet connection properties. Should work.

The tute explains the opposite, connecting using linux and accessing net using windows through linux. Try the above, but I may not be able to solve your queries. Please search elsewhere if it does not work.

LAN setup on windoze:
Disable DHCP & DNS. Enter static local addresses in the LAN Network Connection. This will usually not work with windoze-to-windoze, but it works windoze-to-linux.

Or else, follow the rules in the create new LAN connection. Once you finish, set up your LAN IP addresses manually.

Thanks for your help.

I use FC3, but I can't get my family to agree. Still not able to get WinXP to work with FC3. In the control panel, I use Make New Connection, but it transfers me to the Wizard. I can't seem to get the Wizard to let me do anything manually. Seems to me you should be able to make more than one Connection/Profile for various types of Networks, but I can't get it to let me create a second LAN connection so I can maually change settings.

You don't need a second LAN connection. Go through that wizard. Let the wizard finish. It will setup DHCP. Once it finishes, then go to your internet connection properties -> TCP/IP properties and change the IP address manually.

I've changed the IP address manually. WinXP says LAN is connected, but can not connect to the Internet.

If you connect to the net using Fedora2, find out your DNS primary & secondary addresses from Fedora 2 ( in /etc/resolv.conf or in settings -> network - DNS tab )

Enter those addresses in Windows machine LAN properties -> TCP/IP properties -> DNS server addresses

I connect to the net using Fedora. I added the DNS primary & secondary in both WinXP and Fedora, just like your tutor said. Internet okay in Fedora, but doesn't work in WinXP.

I was trying to take this in stages. Share the Internet first. I ready only want to share the Internet. I was going to work on installing samba later for file sharing, but it's really not a must for me at this time.

If I use WinXP to connect to the Internet. The Wizard will make a connection that allows Fedora to use the Internet through WinXP. Shared files can be seen on both PC but can't be accessed, which I understand you need samba or some other program to be able to read the files. Now if I'm using Fedora and my family wants to use the internet I have to log off of Fedora and switch to WinXP. When using Fedora and the Internet I can see shared files on both PC but can't access them, which is okay, because I understand I need samba. WinXP can't access the Internet through Fedora.

Hmmm... it worked for me and some other people I had given the tute before posting it up. I'm a networking newbie myself, so unable to help you in depth. I assumed the LAN on windows should be easy, because it worked for me in the first attempt. Its possible there may be some additional thing you may have to do. Please ask your specific question in the networking forum. You may refer this article in your question, so that a guru could find some mistake/omission in my tutorial, and can rectify it, so that future users don't have the same problem as you. Thanks.

Thanks.
There should be something / someone around to help.
If you can't find anything, then when you succeed you should post it up as a tutorial
