Is there such a thing?

An OS that works. An OS which doesn't start doing weird things for no discernable reason. Obviously Windows doesn't count. Neither do a lot of Linux OS's. Slackware is pretty good. Maybe FreeBSD. Is it possible to buy/get hold of, a piece of software, an operating system, that does what it says on the tin. Is Mac any good? They're all so full of promises. Windows promises to make your life easier. How could you ever cope without it? As far as I can see it's a complete load of bollocks. It makes peoples lives considerably more complicated. I would think a lot of people's time is spent trying to work out problems, or trying to get someone else to fix them.

Without my computer I would have so much free time. But I've got to download the latest security updates, check my emails, listen to a cd, I just don't have time to actually do anything. This computer has taken over my life. I've got my own domain, I had a website, but couldn't think of a good enough reason to keep it. I might buy a second computer to use as a server. It will relay all my emails, serve my webpage, maybe do dns, a firewall.

It's nice to learn new stuff, but really, what's the point? Everything about my computer is computer related. I only need an email address to keep up with the latest security updates. It was great to begin with. I had windows xp on a laptop for a year or so. Then Linux. Here I am after a year of it armed with a vast quantity of knowledge, and nothing much to do with it.

Do I like it? Yes.
Do I need to get out more? Yes.
