why didn't K3B tell me I was trying to erase a CD-R?

I tried to erase a CD-R in K3B, having mistakenly grabbed it instead of the CD-RW I meant to erase. Nothing happened to the CD-R, of course. I'm just wondering why K3B just eventually claimed that the CD was successfully erased, rather then letting me know it was unerasable. Does K3B not bother to notice the difference?
