Hi,
The things I miss the most from Windows are: DirectX/Graphic Drivers - Linux have a serious problem with non-NVidia graphic cards. I would like to see some ports of much drivers. Some Linux software even have done its own, Xig for example. But I don't need to pay to use a driver! Can someone create a Framework for drivers that works in Linux and windows? Visual Studio.NET - To all development tools that linux have I give them a LOLOLOL. They suck and thats why linux can not grow fast. For doing a simple program I have to spend 2 more minutes after coding than in windows. So, after 2 hours in VS.NET if I was in linux I spend 3-4 hours! Internet Explorer - We need a version of mozilla that handles the IE standarts. We can't see some pages because of their love for non-IE standarts! And the list would go on, but those are the really anoying! |
Crystal Player! There are many great Linux programs for playing videos like Xine, Mplayer and etc., but I think Crystal Player is the most eminent. I'd be willing to pay the whole price for Crystal Player Pro.

Macromedia Flash and Freehand, especialy Frrehand is the workhorse of Desktop Publishing.
Wife is a graphic designer, she could do many things with gimp but there is nothing lke freehand for linux |
Definately Sibelius 3. It's the only reason for which I still have win$$. Lilypond or noteedit can't compete with sibelius unfortunately.

I would add a vote for both InDesign & Acrobat. I work on a design team & all are on Adobe apps. so to keep in synch I must too. Another app that I would realy like to see ported to Linux is a compact but feature full Bible study prgram called e-sword. It's already freeware, & seems fully developed, so developer might be interested in getting it to the Linux community. Thanks for the greatr forum! :)

SIPS
All kinds of SIP Software
VoIP!!! Anyone knows some VoIP-software for Linux?!? or comcenter to print documets and send them automatic as fax or letter. |
Half Life 2 and WinAmp, eventhough xmms is quite neat.
Why don't game devs use OpenGL? I guess that would make porting games far more easier! |

Md5summer for Linux
I'd love to see Md5summer ported to Linux. It shouldn't be THAT difficult, after all, it's open source and listed right on Sourceforge.net! (link is to MD5summer project page)
What is MD5summer? "MD5summer is a GUI application for generating and verifying MD5 checksums of files. Entire directory structures can be summed recursively. Input and output files are compatible with those of the GNU md5sum application." MD5Summer has its own website too right here. Check out the screenshots: 1, 2, 3 Back when I used Windows I used MD5Summer to generate an md5sum file with all the directories and files on my hard drive that I would then burn to a CD. I'd also use it for other tasks as well. It was the best thing around for easy point and click click click multi-file/directory md5sum management. Sadly, this suggestion will probably be buried in this large thread and forgotten, while dozens of new threads will continue to appear, with people asking for a program like this for Linux and being told over and over just to use the CLI program or some crude hack that doesn't work as well as MD5summer does. Oh well, here's my suggestion.. someone please port it.. the source is available. Disclaimer: I am not the author of MD5Summer nor do I have anything to do with the program but I think it's an awesome utility that should be available for Linux if someone would just port the damn thing!!!! :) |
A lot of the DVD-Ripping & Authoring & Encoding, that exist for windows.
I know that some programs like that exists on linux, but they arent yet, as good as the F#$ Programs avaible for Winblow$ |
Hey Electronkz you wanna bet. I can rip shrink and burn in less than an hr on linux and I dont have to take a chance of another vires getting my burner like last time it was in a windows machine.
