Ok, from the top of my head. ANYTHING by Sierra or Blizzard should be ported yesterday to linux. The ONLY reason I still have a windows on my box is to play Diablo II (I'm too lazy to install&configure wine) and to play HalfLife (didn't get it to work with wine at 2002, too lazy to try now).

Anyway... I'd like to see ALL games work in linux, and all aplication (except M$, of course). Oh, yeah, and a Lotus for linux (not lotus 123, but lotus notes, organizer, etc)

You have more than one ICQ client for Linux... you even have M$N Me$$enger clients!! with no wine at all...

Wouldn't it be nice to have new Linux programs, without porting from Windows?

If you look at the pace of improvement in 2 programs OO and Gimp, we don't need ports from the other OS, or at least 90% of the newest recruits to Linux, can already do without the need for ports.

Indeed! I totally agree. As long as I can open and edit my Word or Excel documents with OpenOffice, I don't need windows programs. We just need more programs with this capability. Some of us are stuck using Windows at work...but don't necessarily want to use it at home.

I don't know about active x plugins but the main system would be a very good start.
Most likely won't get much response for this sort of thing as most linux users are tec people rather than artists, but that is what needs to change...

WEll, there IS a problem. We can't use incompatible formats like M$ does. I must use rtf when I'm doing some group work (at school) because if I didn't we woulnd't be able to join our work to get a final writter report. However, when I work alone I use swx (open office) or, when I'm not too lazy, a markup language (html, dbXML)

I have experience to tell, u can do EVERYTHING you want in linux... you just need to know where to search and perhaps write a few lines (editing config files is nothing unusual for a linux user). And if you say: gaming, well... you can choose an open source /free software game, and then you can run it nativeley,but if you chose a propietary game (Blizzard, valve, sierra, konami, interplay, etc) then you can run it with a crossover (not an emulator) like wine or winex(for DX games)...

It just depends on what one uses their computer for. I've been at that stage for a couple years now. Whereas others still need M$ apps for different reasons. I must use M$ at work and that is hard enough. Usually I can't wait for the end of the day to come home and boot into Slackware. ;)

I understand... It happens the same to me... I actually miss my virtual console... And when I come home and sit at my Mandrake and download mails and update the few CVS mantained documents that I have... it just feels right...

Looks right too. Linux just looks and feels so right.

I would really like to see a program like Sound Forge 5 or 6 on Linux (or another quality sound editing program).

Not really a port, but something better than wine so things can be easily bridged from Windows-Linux.....

better than wine? perhaps winex, with enhanced support of DirectX? Or perhaps something like Quake3 point release... for other aplications
