Ubuntu Application Icon with Suitcase and the letter A on it. . .

Folks,

For some odd reason, my Ubuntu Application icon no longer works.. It is the Icon that you
use to search for new software.

I Click on it, and the icon world spins for about 10 seconds, then nothing happens and the mouse
pointer turns back to an arrow. . .as if nothing has happened.

How can I fix this?

One other thing. . . I have a weird browser button . ..It is blue with a compass heading of about
40 degrees on the Icon. It says Browser. . .yet it doesn't work.

HOw can I get my Ubuntu Application search to work? and also get rid of that Browser button?

I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on a Toshiba Laptop with 16G of memory.

Dwayne

Is there anything I can do?

Should I just backup my files, format the drive and reload Ubuntu?

no, no. many Linux icon themes have adapted this look as a default browser icon.

Question is why 2 of your menu icons aren't working anymore.
Please open your filemanager, go to /usr/share/applications and find those 2 icons there.
Right-click on them and select something like "View in a text editor" or "Edit with gedit" or some such.
Paste the content of both files here, in CODE tags.

I could not find the Ubuntu software icon, the one with a suitcase and the letter "A" in it. But it is located on my task bar. . .just useless.

I found the compass icon and right clicked on it. I could not open it with any kind of editor, it did not give me the option.

the command it uses is the following:

webbrowser-app %u

Code:
/usr/share/applications/webbrowser-app.desktop

^ sorry about the ubuntu software store, not sure what to do about that.
Try this search.

For the other software, open a terminal and enter
Code:
webbrowser-app
(it does sound kinda macish)
and see what output you get.

You might also want to figure out which package it belongs to.
