Question Skype 8.10.0.4 causing video and especially sound issues on laptop.

Hi.

I've tried the latest Skype v8.10.0.4 -- there's trouble getting audio to work. The video is also a bit dodgy. Sometimes it's fine, other times nothing. I tried skyping yestereve and the person on the other end said I sounded like R2D2 -- even though my test call showed my audio as good.

Are others having issues? Skype 4.3 worked far better for me.

I have found the quality of skype on linux deteriorating - like they fired their linux programmer and have windows nerds trying to patch his code, or that he's developed substance abuse problems. I've transferred as much of that as possible to whatsapp with a smart phone. Way more intelligent & reliable - e.g. it freezes video if the network goes bad.

Exclamation

When I did the test call in skype to test my audio, there was a speaker sign with a line through it -- my sound appeared fine in pulse audio volume control though. Is this some bug?

Also, another time I did the test call and my sound was fine through my USB webcam that has a builtin mic -- but the person on the other end could not hear me properly.

I find Skype crappy software. It's common for things to come up "Jammy side down. Most users just learn the stupid icon system they use and how to switch it on.

If you have more than 1 microphone on your box e.g. internal and webcam that could be an issue. Often a bit of time invested in it resolves this down to '[this device] works crap with Skype'. and we can help from there.
