Distribution: I'm in love with Gentoo. 'emerge kde' -- can it be any more simple?

Konqueror doesn't like me

I installed suse 8.1 a while back and had trouble with nvidia drivers for my geforce 2 card.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=34790

Well, i finally fixed the problem only to find another....

notes: wm=kde

once the official nvidia drivers were installed, i got the 3d hardware acceleration working, however i began having problems with kde. Konqueror and kmail would randomly crash. And when they went they'd take down the whole system; i'd be able to move the mouse cursor, but everything on screen and the keyboard froze. At first I just thought that it was running slowly, so as an experiment, I let it sit for an hour, and nothing had changed. I had no choice but to do a hardboot.

I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with KDE's rendering of html, since Konqueror and kmail cause the problem. The crash usually occurs if I'm trying to scroll down a webpage. I'll move the scrollbar, konq will freeze while it's trying to redraw the page. Kmail causes a freeze when i click on a message and the preview appears, but it happens really randomly.

I've alleviated the problem somewhat by turning off html completely in kmail, and using mozilla/galeon/phoenix instead of konq. but mozilla is really slow, and galeon/phoenix look really bad with suse (font rendering is crap).

I'm very much considering going back to the original nv driver, but I'm afraid that might cause even more problems, and I know I'd miss the wonderful GL games.

Someone please help me.... I want my konqueror back

I just found this post from a long time ago, I have been having the same problem, with Kmail and Konqueror (sometimes Kwin as well) crashing on me pretty frequently. Ironically, it has been really hard for me to post this message because every time I try, konq crashes on me before I can finish typing! (I think this is the 7th try at least). Every time it is the same error message, a signal 11 (SIGSEGV) which is a segmentation fault I believe. I've been told this is the program's fault (oops, no pun intended) but is there really nothing I can do to fix it besides avoid using these applications? (btw I'm running Mandrake 9.1)
thanks for the help!
Sarah
(ha! I finally got it finished!)

Yeah I used to use Gnome, until I found kde and it was so much cooler-looking! I know thats not what matters most, but besides that I was finding that where kde programs crash on me, gnome tends to freeze my screen instead, so its not perfect either. So I guess I will just put up with it for now...
