Is there an easy upgrade to a Gnumeric install with something like 'sudo Gnumeric upgrade' command?

I thought I would like to play with latest version of Gnumeric, I am currently running Linux Mint 18.2 and currently Gnumeric version 1.12.28 about a year and a half old. Has anyone tried this? I know they say to use the version packaged with the Distro, just curious if there was an easy way to install or upgrade from what's given.

You can always get the latest Gnumeric from this website: http://www.gnumeric.org/

The first approach is to look at the downloads page on the developers' website, in this case http://www.gnumeric.org/download.html - this indicates that you can compile the latest version from source code if you want and are able to.

The next approach is to look to see if there are any other repositories (usually a PPA - Personal Package Archive) with a more up-to-date version of the package for Xenial. In this case, a search for gnumeric ppa shows that, as far I can see, this is not the case (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=gnumeric).

Which, unless you can find someone else who has produced a more up-to-date version of the package for Xenial, leaves you with the option of upgrading your version of Mint to 19 where the version of Gnumeric is 1.12.35.

Above my skill level to compile from scratch, as I wouldn't know how to install the complied code anyway/either. Think i'll forget about it, my system works well, and if it ain't broke..

Thanks for the replies though..was just curious..
