Over the last couple of weeks, I established a new Gmail account for some updated hobby interests. On my Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon system, I use Thunderbird 60.2.1 as my mail client, because I have or monitor for my family seven or eight other Gmail accounts. When I tried to set up the new account, GMail barked at me and denied access to the new account b/c the client I was connecting with "is not secure enough". However, none of the other email accounts have any issues logging in. Has anyone else seen this, and/or know a way around it?
When signed into your gmail account click on the 3x3 grid and select "account". A new page will open. Click on "Sign-in & security". Scroll down to the section "Apps with account access" and turn on "Allow less secure apps" if it isn't already.
All, I tried the "allow less secure apps" route. Google's help itself told me that only applies to enterprise Google Docs/Gmail accounts, not individual personal accounts. I'm still open to other suggestions. What really puzzles me is that I have about a half-dozen other accounts that have no issue. I am only having issues with this newest account.
So, I should have known better than to question the authority of the replies on this forum. Last night I finally found the proper "allow less secure applications" setting in the Gmail configuration for my new mailbox. I enabled it. And, voila! My new email account configured beautifully in Thunderbird.
Thank you all for the assistance. I appreciate it!
