Question How to use Live CD/DVD's

I made a DVD of SuSe 9.3 Pro today & booted to it. I have 9.1 personal on another machine. 9.3 looks a bit different but I was more concerned with ease of use. Problem is, I'm unfamiliar with using live evals & got frustrated with it. I'm unsure how much can be done while using a "virtual" OS. It wouldn't let me do too much, like save a file to a floppy, access a music CD on another drive etc. The best I could do was save 2 files & email them to myself. I've uploaded them so you more advanced users can perhaps look at them and maybe see what I'm doing wrong.

File 1 is systemlog.doc & can be found here:
system log

File 2 may be of no use. Using YAST I did a hardware info check, and saved that log. The format however is .dat, which if opened in a text editor is useless. Maybe someone knows of a better app to view it. Anyway, here's the link:
Log.dat

I looked at trying to get a Mandrake LiveCD but instead I found variations of that OS. The one I'm downloading now is PCLinuxOS which claims to run totally uninstalled, from CDROM only. Wierd. Let me know if that OS is beyond a noobs reach.

Thanks people.

Personally, I like Knoppix for a live CD. I give these away to Windows lovers/haters to let them see Linux in person.

I only have two converts, so far.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your help. I had the pleasure last night of booting into the PCLinuxOS live CD. This system is not only live, it's literally "it". You don't HAVE to install. It always runs from the CD. It was a dream to setup, recognized all my hardware, I was able to play music CD's, open & edit documents etc. I am familiar with the linux file structure & ot having to worry about really corrupting anything makes experimenting a lot of fun. This distro can be obtained here & I highly recommend it to any other 1st-timers out there like me. If you really like it you can install but currently it's beta so I'll wait. Thank God I found a way to play with linux!!
