How do I install XPDF on windows?

There is supposed to be binaries here: http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html but the installer/zip package does not contain xpdf.exe and therefor is a mystery to me how one would go about actually using the program.

So, is there an xpdf.exe somewhere? Or am I going to just have to use a different program? Thanks.

functionally illiterate?

Had you actually READ the text on that page, you would have known that the xpdf package is X-Windows only and not ported to Windows.
If you wish to compile it yourself, one MIGHT get it to run under the xwindows integration using CYGWIN, but I would google for information first.
The windows zip file download desription specifically states that it contains the command-line tools pdftops, pdftotext, pdftohtml, pdftoppm, pdftopng, pdfimages, pdfinfo, pdffonts, and pdfdetach only. If what you require is served by one of these utilities, you have the right package. IF what you need is a Windows PDF viewer, you need to search for something else: xpdf is the the package you need.

Have you considered upgrading to a Linux operating system? XPDF should work fine on nearly ANY Linux, BSD, or other unix-like system.

If you goal is to find a light-weight PDF reader for Windows, this article should help: http://lifehacker.com/5328211/five-best-pdf-readers

I've used Foxit basic (when I started using it, there was no paid version). It performs well enough.

Foxit

I second that. I am not using it now (mostly using all Linux now, so no need) but Foxit reader served me well for three or four years.

ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/xpdfbin-win-3.04.zip

(Looks like one for MS Windows, download & unzip it.)

Arrow Is this thread solved, hedron?

I was about to ask the same question, and found this thread. I wonder if the thread is solved by #5. Can you tell us that, hedron?

In my own searches for the answer, I also found two other possibilities, which I am not sure of how good or bad, right or wrong, they are:

http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/xpdf.htm

https://www.xpdfreader.com/download.html

If one (or all?) of these 3 options solves the problem, mark the thread as solved, hedron. I guess only you can do that.

You have time to check out and revisit a thread three years old, but not to check the link or web site yourself?

Thumbs down @ondoho and @wpeckham; and I say for you both and all: lets make LQ better!

I write directed comments here, but you should read them all.

@ondoho The thread is old, but it is unfinished. Yesterday I was doing exactly that: wondering how to run xpdf in Windows, since that may be necessary in a situation I am involved. So the issue is still necessary and makes sense today. And together with all I have said, the original poster of this thread has very recent activity in LQ. So she/he should have received the notification of this thread activity, and should have seen that LQ needs a bit more action. I value very much the LQ feature that let us mark threads as solved. It is usually a very good prospect to find a *solved* LQ thread with a problem or question we go through, isn't it??

@wpeckham I only checked the second website I pointed, and I downloaded and tested one program from there (but not xpdf itself). But the result was different from what I expected, the program did not consider my user setting, strangely - but this is an issue for another thread. I cannot test how good or bad Win* programs work because I have no Win today. And I really will not have Win10, not even on a virtual machine. Further, only the original poster can mark the thread as solved, so I really had several reasons to wake the thread up.

Lets make LQ better! (:
