FvwmButtons took over my computer

It slowed to a crawl. I thought it had crashed, then it released its stranglehold. When it started slowing down again top reported that it was using 99.7% of CPU. WTF? From the man page:
Quote:
FvwmButtons - the FVWM buttonbox module ... The FvwmButtons module provides a window of buttons which sits on the X terminal's root window.
It survives quitting X.

Am I the only person on LQ who runs FVWM95?

I don't have this trouble with fvwm-2.7.0, which I run with NsCDE sometimes. Maybe it's a bad config file? I'd look at the dates of the config files and start there.

Mine's 5 years old. I've been using FVWM95 for 25 years, never had this happen.

I made fvwmbuttons non-executable, so it no longer loads. That hasn't hampered my use of X.

At this point I think you probably are the last one left.

Since the last release of FVWM95 was over 20 years ago, you are probably running into bit rot.

I remember someone has a .fvwm2rc that emulates Windows95, but I have since lost the link.
