Fcitx won't work on discord, steam (possibly a gtk issue?)

I've been able to use fcitx globally, however it does not work with certain programs like discord or steam. Specifically, it won't allow me switch input methods. One post on reddit said something about not have gtk2, but I have this installed along with gtk3.

Using Peppermint OS 10.

AFAICS, fcitx does not require any gtk version.
I don't think it will work with steam, because steam is based on WINE, the windows program loader.
Casn you show us what your searches revealed?

Very little. This was all I could find aside from the fcitx FAQ. Basically said you need gk2 and gk3 since discord supposedly uses gk2.

I didn't, since I verified that I already have gk2 and gk3 installed. All I did was create a .xprofile txt and put in the code as described on the reddit post but that did not help either.
