favorite software

So I've been getting back into Linux use as a desktop and been trying out or going to be trying out some different programs. Here is a kind of my list so far...

File sharing: Samba
Internet: Firefox
Office: LibreOffice (not a huge office user anyways, but its there if I need it)
Music recording: Ardour, Audacity, Hydrogen, Rakarrack, Guitarix... Haven't had a chance to try these yet but going to dabble with them on my laptop. Would like to fix up a nice desktop down the road for music recording and will probably install Ubuntu Studio
Photo Editing: GIMP
Media player: VLC
Text editor: nano
Video editing: OpenShot and OBS Studio... I do YouTube videos and hoping these programs will help with the transition to Linux desktop.

I think that covers it. I was wondering too if others here wanted to share some software you all use and love. Most of mine are well known, but if you have some not so well known awesome apps to check out, I and maybe some others would love to hear about them. Whether they are GUI apps or even cool command line utilities... Doesn't matter.

For photo editing you could include darktable.

Other than the fact I normally use KWrite for my text editor, the rest of what you have in your OP is the same for me.

I prefer vim for editing when it has to be cli, gvim on the desktop. I think you also need a pdf reader and, in my case, a postscript reader. I use gv for both but most people would probably find evince more friendly. And everybody needs a good small image viewer. You can't really use the gimp for that.

XnView MP is not only an excellent image viewer, but it also has many editing functions. In the past I would view an image in Gwenview, or another viewer, and export the image to The GIMP if it needed to be edited.
So much can be done with XnView it is rarely necessary to open The GIMP anymore.

For a text editor, Mousepad

or
mcedit, which is part of the file manager known as The Midnight Commander.

For a browser, Pale Moon.

Stuff I use for 3D printing...

FreeCad 0.18.4: Parametric 3D modeller, Self taught, more complex that I need (so far) but fairly easy to design stuff and allow easy modification and placement of elements. Generates .stl files

Slic3r_1.38.5_Prusa3D: 3D slicing software, takes .stl files and outputs .gcode files for printing using print, filament and printer configuration settings.

Repetier-Host_2.1.6: Driver program to control and monitor my 3D printer over a USB serial link.

Still trying to master Blender which can be useful for adjusting the .stl files.

Plus a few of the usual suspects mentioned above; Firefox, Thunderbird, Gimp, LibreOffice, etc.

Play Bonny!
